Shan Stone
Who is the real RACIST in this recent incident?

Here is a tweet made by Birmingham councillor Gareth Compton as reported by the BBC:

“Can someone please stone Yasmin Alibhai-Brown to death? I shan’t tell Amnesty if you don’t. It would be a blessing, really.”

SOURCE: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-11736154

The BBC article then goes on to say that, Roger McKenzie who is Unison’s West Midlands regional secretary said about the tweet, “It is wholly unacceptable for a public official to make such RACIST comments. Councillor Compton must resign his seat immediately.”

While I don’t agree with the tweet and think it was a matter of bad judgement on Mr Comptons part, I’m somewhat confused as to why this tweet is being considered RACIST by Roger McKenzie.

Surely the ONLY racist aspect of this is actually being expressed by the very person who is associating stoning as a racist issue? Do you agree?

I don’t think it’s racist, since white people and Middle Eastern (I’m assuming she’s Middle Eastern, forgive me if she’s not.) people are all Caucasian. What the guy said was clearly offensive in terms of her religious beliefs, but the man who’s calling his comment racist is the real racist.

I conceived ‘memory and dust’ as a soundtrack to a story set in the mythic East. The title and track names are drawn from my readings of of the Zen poets, who pondered on impermanence in their wilderness retreats. Each track represents a chapter in the story. Electronic washes are laid down like brushstrokes in an ink painting, creating soundscapes evoking mountains and valleys, deserts and s…
