Have you found anything interesting, informative or witty written on the margins of a library book?
In a book about the WWII North African campaign, on a photograph of 8th Army soldiers tucking into their Christmas pudding, I read the comment, ‘PROPAGANDA PHOTO – we never got any pud!’
Also, in a book about Islam in the modern world, against the writer’s statement that ‘I can find nothing in the Koran to suggest that Muslims have to separate themselves from non muslim society’ I read ‘He didn’t look very far!’ followed by a quotation of the relevant verses.
Anyone read anything else like that?
In Queens’ college, Cambridge, in the old library. several books have comments written by 14th century monks. in one book, you can find a doodle of the king, Henry VIII. It is a very good, but unflattering, likeness. Some say that it was done by Erasmus.
