Dental Cosmetics: About Porcelain Crowns, Dental Implants, and the Rest of the Gang

Dental Implants
Dental Implants are surgically installed titanium screws that are inserted to the jaws to replace missing teeth and help provide support for individual crowns and bridges. An implant generally takes 3 to 6 months to integrate with the bones before a crown or denture is fitted in the gap. Dental implants are the better option for people who don’t want to wear dentures. Anyone can get implants for as long as they are in good physical health and have enough bones to hold the screw. A basic implant will cost about $1,250 to $3000 depending on how many implants you’ll be needing.
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening has gained greater and greater popularity since 2000. Newer and more effective whitening treatments have come out to compete in the market, and one of the more popular product is the Zoom Whitening line. Zoom whitening is a combination of gel and light wave treatments applied to the teeth. The session lasts takes about 45 minutes to an hour and has a relatively longer period of effect. For maintenance, get the Zoom whitening treatment twice a year.
Porcelain Crowns (Caps)
Crowns or caps are used to protect or restore broken teeth. It is basically a protective covering for teeth. Porcelain crowns are the better choice because they resemble teeth color closest, as compared to other types of crowns. Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are used to reshape, color-correct, and re-align teeth. Porcelain veneers are thin, hand-molded, pieces of porcelain, attached to the teeth. They do not cover the whole surface of the teeth. Dentists use this treatment for closing gaps, aligning crowned teeth, and whitening stained teeth. They are also the better solution for correcting chipped teeth. Porcelain veneers are also stain-resistant which means they will stay as white as the day they were put in. They cost about $1000 to $2000 a piece. Temporary veneers are placed to protect the teeth before the permanent porcelain veneers are placed.
Invisalign
Invisalign is now the new alternative for braces. Invisalign is a removable mouth piece that’s transparent and has the property of straightening your teeth the same way as braces would. This set of aligners are changed every two weeks, depending on the progress of your teeth. A typical Invisalign realignment procedure would take about a year or so. This is ideal for adults who are conscious of getting braces which are generally worn by teenagers. It is now being used to treat dental conditions like overbites, under bites, and even cross bites. It costs about $3500 up, depending on your teeth’s needs.
Root Canal Therapy
Decayed and infected teeth need to be treated with root canal therapy. Your dentist would want to save all of your teeth, and so, to avoid unnecessary extraction of your teeth, you’ll need to undergo root canal therapy. The therapy involves extraction of the pulp inside the teeth, and then killing the nerve and vessels in the teeth so the decay is stopped. The gap is then filled with a special filler so you could gain full use of your teeth.
