Boys Love Action Figures, Girls Love Dolls
When I was a child action figures were the new thing. Every boy wanted an Action Man doll, only you didn’t call them dolls because they were what girls played with. We called these action figures, not dolls.
These days there are literally thousands of action figures for boys and girls. Action Man himself is no longer limited to a few Second World War military outfits. Some of the most popular themes today are the Action Man footballers and the Action Man Polar Explorer. This growing range of figures means that every year there are new models, new themes, new costumes and new accessories to fulfill the demands of a new generation of youngsters.
Although there has been a lot of debate over whether playing with dolls is good for boys most people agree that it is a good thing. A doll is simply a prop that helps a child, boy or girl, create a fantasy world. They can recreate real life events that help them to make sense of the world around them.
There is no question that action figures are here to stay and today’s ever growing range of models and themes confirm this.
Today’s models are not limited to a few outfits and maybe some weapon accessories. There are a great selection of accessories to really bring todays Action Man to life. From dog sled teams for the polar explorer to horses for knights and jeeps for the military officers.
There is a developing collectors market as those who played with Action Man grow into adulthood. Although they are now too old to play with their action figures, they now want to collect them in all their various outfits. Some vintage Action Man figures are worth significant sums of money, particularly if they are in their original packaging.
There are an abundance of new toys on the market these days but action figures are a firm favourite that are here to stay. The future for Action Man looks excellent as each new generation of youngsters are provided with more great costumes, themes and accessories.
