Perfecting Your Smile With Porcelain Veneers

You see them everywhere, on TV, in magazines, even on the street of your hometown – It seems that everyone has a beautiful, white, straight and even smile. How did it happen?

Although dentistry methods and dental care have significantlyimproved, what you are probably noticing is an increase in the use and availability of porcelain dental veneers and enhancements in the materials used to make them.

When applied by a highly trained cosmetic dentist, porcelain veneers are an incredibly flexible and versatile method of restoring and repairing teeth. How do Porcelain Veneers Work?

Correcting the appearance of your teeth with veneers usually requires two office visits. Your first visit includes tooth preparation, impressions, and the placement of temporary veneers.  Final placement of your veneers occurs about two weeks later when the final porcelain veneers are bonded in place.

Because veneers require a small amount of enamel to be removed, they are non-reversible. The removal of this fine layer of the natural tooth allows a custom fit when the porcelain restoration is bonded to the tooth. The process involves buffing the tooth, removing an extremely thin layer of the tooth to allow for the thickness of the veneer, an impression of the tooth, and final bonding of the veneer to the tooth with special cement.

About the Author

Dr. Lucas Setiady received his doctor of dental surgery degree (D.D.S.) from the University of Southern California in 1986. He began practicing dentistry in 1987 and moved to his current location in Chino in 1990.

Dr. Setiady has continued advancing his skills in dental techniques and is highly trained in Neuromuscular Full-Mouth Reconstruction. He is a graduate of Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies.

Dr. Setiady is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). Through AACD, Dr. Setiady volunteers his time to the “Give Back a Smile Foundation,” a program to restore the smiles of domestic violence survivors at no charge. He is also a member of the International Association of Comprehensive Aesthetics (IACA).

Dr. Setiady and his wife, Giovanna, have two children, Tamara and Daniel. Out of the office, Dr. Setiady spends much of his time playing his favorite sport, table tennis.
