Something I drew for my class to go with our Vanitas project. It is meant to be an ink pot to symbolize that knowledge is power as literature was recorded in ink. Thank you.

It’s a very graphical piece. I like your uses of media, especially using the ink to draw the bottle. This highlights the contextual meaning. Biros are surprisingly good drawings utensils. Firstly, I would suggest that you simplify your drawing a little. You have used lots of lines to create a form, when not many were necessary. Have a look at cross-hatching and how it works, as that is obviously your preferred style of ink-drawing.

This sounds like you want a very clear meaning, and something that specific is not simple to record visually. At the moment, it looks like a good piece of still-life drawing. I think you could include some visuals and textures that suggest power, or even something that initially sounds corny like writing words in the ink, or having the ink trailing off into a book in the background with it writing words. Something that suggests your concept to the audience but leaves it open to interpretation too.
I like this piece and I would suggest not changing this one, as it is often good to make another piece of work, rather than changing a finished one. You seem to have a lot to say through your art, and I hope you feel encouraged.
