The Chinese Almanac As Your Guide To The Coming Year
The Chinese almanac has been in use for many centuries and has been relied upon by people since long before the birth of Christ. Known in China as the Tung Shu, it is called the Tong Sing by the Cantonese speaking people in Hong Kong. This is for the very reason that in Cantonese the word Shu sound too similar to a similar word meaning failure but in contrast, Sing sounds like victory.
The name Tong Sing literally translates as the book of everything, which in hindsight is a very apt description as this tome contains forty seven different sections that are packed with all sorts of useful information. Since it first came into being, people in the East have referred to the Chinese almanac as a guide for everything from crop planting and harvesting, to auspicious days to perform tasks.
Perusing any almanac will give you information on everything from palmistry, geomancy, physiognomy, numerology, fortune telling, herbal medicine and will even include a comprehensive dictionary. Other insets can include a pregnancy chart, a guide to creating charms and talismans and even offers advice on how to successfully run your home and business.
The first version of the Chinese almanac was rather simplified, but over time it has grown into a very comprehensive guide to life. The earliest recorded current version of the Tong Sing was compiled in the Qing dynasty, over two hundred years ago and has been in print for that long.
It is a forecast for the year ahead which even included Feng Shui tips and advice for the average user. Feng Shui is known as the Chinese art of placement and has been relied upon in Chinese homes to create harmony and balance for many centuries. This intriguing discipline is now becoming widely accepted in the Western world.
The almanac has a personal fortune forecast for the upcoming twelve months and even lists the times for sunrise and sunset for what are known as the twenty-four sub seasons. There is also a list of your inauspicious and auspicious stars for the coming year. Using the almanac you can select auspicious days for doing family activities or starting business ventures.
Chinese families have planned their daily lives around the Tong Sing for centuries, ensuring that activities are planned for specified auspicious days. To this day, farmers will plan the seeding of crops and the harvesting of those crops according to the information contained in the almanac.
There is information available on traditional medicine and Chinese astrological charts are provided in the almanac as well. You can access information on palmistry, fortune telling and Chinese face reading or personality interpretations. There are poems, anecdotes, advice and even a solar and lunar calendar of the year ahead.
